The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice nursing role accountable for monitoring and improving patient care within their specialty area. The position requires demonstrating expertise in clinical practice, education, consultation, collaboration, and evidence-based nursing practice and research.

Essential Functions

  • Provide consultation to staff and teams in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Develop, facilitate, and analyze programs, projects, and goals utilizing quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research principles to change culture, standardize patient care best practices, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Provide collaborative leadership on teams and projects, using leadership skills, clinical expertise, and principles of program development, to support unit, regional, and enterprise goals.
  • Create, manage, and evaluate processes that optimize patient care. Responsibilities include skill development of bedside clinicians, including critical thinking skills, supporting patient care through formalized education, patient rounds, policies, procedures, protocols, and pathway development, contributing expertise to patient care, identifying key learning opportunities at the bedside, and reviewing with appropriate bedside clinicians.

Physical Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an advanced practice nursing role (clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner) from an accredited institution (degree verification required)
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated clinical competency and leadership in the specialty area

     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competencies with adult learning theories and methodologies including educational program development.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies and clinical program development.
  • Experience in evidence-based practice and research.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.  

$53.22 - $77.18
